Instagram story reply is a different trigger
Someone replies to your story and you want a DM to go out. That is a story reply. Someone comments a word on a Reel and you want one DM. That is a different automation, and it is the one HitDM runs.
What people mean by an Instagram story reply
An Instagram story reply is the message someone sends after they see your story. They tap the reply box, or a sticker, and the text lands in your inbox as a DM. It never appears as a public comment under a Reel.
That is a different question from “auto reply dm instagram”. The auto-reply page is about a comment on a post. This page is about the story. Mixing them into one URL would make Google guess which question you answered.
Meta’s Instagram Private Replies are the comment path: one private reply per comment. A story reply is already a DM. It does not need that same comment rule, and HitDM does not automate it.
HitDM does not send story-reply DMs
If someone replies to your story today, HitDM stays quiet. There is no story keyword, no story template, and no switch to turn that on. Peers market story replies. We do not claim their feature.

How to tell the two apart
- Name the trigger. If they typed on the story, that is a story reply. If they typed under the Reel, that is a comment.
- Do not point both at one automation. A comment keyword will not see story replies. A story tool will not see post comments.
- Use the live path for the Reel. Put one keyword in the caption. HitDM sends one private DM when someone comments that word.
A labeled example, not a client result: your story says “reply YES for the price”. Those YES messages are story replies. HitDM will not answer them. The same YES under a Reel caption can be a comment keyword, and that is the message HitDM can send.
