Auto reply DM on Instagram, from a comment

An auto reply DM on Instagram, in this setup, is the one private message a comment keyword opens. HitDM sends that DM with your link. It does not answer every chat in the inbox. Free includes 1,000 of those sends a month.

What people mean by an auto reply DM

An auto reply DM on Instagram is the private message that goes out when someone comments a word you chose. They asked, in public, for the thing in your Reel. The reply meets them in the inbox with one link, instead of sending them to hunt through your bio.

That is not the same job as a bot that answers every chat. “Hey” from a stranger, a customer arguing about shipping, and a comment that says GUIDE are three different messages. HitDM handles the third one. It does not read your whole inbox and invent replies.

Meta allows one private reply per comment, and the comment has to be recent. The rule is in Instagram Private Replies. If you spend that one reply on a vague opener, you cannot send the link later on the same comment. Put the link in the first DM.

Why a keyword beats “reply to everything”

A keyword is a request. GUIDE, LINK, or BOOK means the person wants the thing you named. An automation that replies to every comment will also answer “love this” and “first” and arguments under the post. Each of those burns the only private reply Meta gives you, and it spends a DM from your monthly allowance on someone who did not ask.

HitDM Free includes 1,000 of those DMs a month on one Instagram account. Pro is a flat $9 a month when the meter is the problem, or when you want an email or phone after the opener. Prices stay on Free and Pro pricing. Whether this kind of reply is allowed at all is covered in is Instagram DM automation allowed.

Set the reply in five steps

  1. Pick one keyword. Use a specific word such as GUIDE. Skip vague words like hi, info, or link.
  2. Say the word in the caption and on the Reel. People comment the word they see. If the caption and the on-screen text disagree, the reply never fires.
  3. Write the private DM first. Put the promise and one tracked link in the only private reply Meta guarantees for that comment.
  4. Add a short public reply. A line such as “Sent. Check your DMs.” tells them where to look. Do not paste the URL in the public comment.
  5. Test from a second account. Comment the keyword yourself and confirm the DM arrives before you ask your audience to use the word.

The screens for connecting Instagram and turning the keyword on are in the comment to DM setup guide. This page is the decision before that setup: which reply you are actually automating.

A reply you can copy

This is a labeled example, not a result from a HitDM customer. Swap the word and the promise before you post it.

What this reply is not

  • It is not an answer to every DM already sitting in your inbox.
  • It is not a story reply. Comment keywords are the path described here.
  • It is not three links in one bubble. One promise, one URL.
  • It is not a lead by itself. A tap is a click. An email or phone is a lead, and that step is the Instagram lead capture guide.
  • It is not a contact meter. ManyChat bills another way. The comparison is the ManyChat alternative page.

Where the reply fails in practice

The usual failure is a soft keyword. If you trigger on “link”, you will also match people talking about someone else’s link. Pick a word that only means your offer. Say that word out loud in the Reel and print it on screen in the same spelling you saved.

The second failure is a late or empty DM. The person comments, nothing arrives, and they assume you ignored them. Test from a second account on the phone you actually use. A desktop preview will not show you a broken button.

The third failure is treating the public comment as the delivery channel. A URL typed under the Reel is public, easy to miss, and not a tap you can tie to the keyword. The private DM is the reply. The public line only points at the inbox. More on putting the URL in that first message: get more link clicks from Instagram comments.

Leave a link in bio for people who never comment. Do not make the bio the only path for people who did. They already told you the word. Meet them in the DM.

How to tell it worked

Count comments that match the keyword, DMs that sent, and taps on the tracked link. Likes are not the score. A week with many GUIDE comments and few taps means the DM was slow, the button was vague, or the page behind the link was not the guide you promised.

If Free hits 1,000 sends, later comments get no reply until the month resets or you move to Pro. Say that to yourself before a Reel you expect to travel. A silent comment looks like you ignored a request.

One Reel, one keyword, one destination. A second word on the same post splits the instruction and splits the replies. Add the next keyword when the first one has a number you trust, not before.

FAQ

Does an auto reply DM answer every message in my inbox?

No. The reply this page describes is the one private DM Meta allows after someone comments a keyword. HitDM does not sit in your inbox and answer unrelated chats.

Can a personal Instagram account send this reply?

No. Private replies run on a Professional account, Business or Creator, connected through an official app.

Is the auto reply free?

HitDM Free includes 1,000 of these DMs a month. Pro is $9 a month when you need more sends or want an email or phone captured after the opener.

Send the reply from a comment, not from the whole inbox

Pick one word, put it on the Reel, and put one link in the private DM. Comment that word from a second account before you ask anyone else to.
