Comment to DM automation for coaches
A coaching Reel can collect “link?” comments and still book nobody. By the time you reply, they have moved on. This page gives you one comment to DM automation for coaches: the caption, the keyword, the public reply, and the single DM Meta lets you send. We build HitDM, where Free includes 1,000 of those DMs a month.
What comment to DM automation for coaches sends
Comment to DM automation for coaches sends one private message when someone comments your keyword on a post or Reel. Put the booking link in that first DM. Meta allows one private reply per comment, sent within seven days. Test from a second account before you promote the word.
That rule comes from Meta’s Instagram Private Replies. The comment is the opt-in. The DM is the delivery. A public “link in bio” reply makes them leave the Reel and hunt.
Start on HitDM Free. A consult link does not need a contact meter. Free includes 1,000 DMs a month. Pro is $9 when you want lead capture on top of the link. See Free and Pro pricing and the ManyChat alternative if you are leaving a contact bill. Other live templates: link clicks from comments, a tap before the link, and a follow ask on Pro.

Set the keyword, the caption, and the first DM
Do these five steps in order. The words match the campaign further down, so you can copy them and swap the offer.
- Choose a campaign word. Pick a specific word such as BOOK. Skip vague words like info or link.
- Put the word in the caption and on the Reel. Say the word out loud and print it on screen so people comment the exact term.
- Write a short public reply. Reply on the comment with something like “Sent. Check your DMs.” Do not paste the booking link there.
- Write the first DM with the link. Put the promise and the tracked booking link in the only private reply Meta guarantees.
- Test from a second account. Comment the keyword from another Instagram account and confirm the DM arrives before you promote the Reel.
Pick a campaign word, not “info”
BOOK, AUDIT, or PLAN beats info, link, and yes. Vague words fire on comments you did not mean to answer, and each one spends your only reply.
Match the word people will type, not the word you wish they would type. If you say “comment BOOK” and they type “booking”, decide in advance whether your tool matches the whole word.
Put the word in the caption and on screen
Say it once in the first three seconds and print it on the Reel. Repeat it as the last line of the caption. People comment what they see, then what they read.
Write the only DM you are guaranteed to send
Meta’s private reply is one message. Put the promise and the URL in it. A second pitch waits until they reply, which many people never do.
Keep the public comment boring: “Sent. Check your DMs.” The link stays private so you are not training the comments to be a link dump. Password bots are the risky path. Stay on the official API, and read is Instagram DM automation allowed.
A coach campaign you can copy
This is a labeled example for a 20-minute consult, not a client we ran. Swap the link, then test it. The wider category is in Instagram DM automation. Tool choice sits in the best Instagram DM automation tools.
| Piece | Copy |
|---|---|
| Keyword | BOOK |
| On-screen line | Comment BOOK for the consult link |
| Caption closer | Comment BOOK and I will send the 20-minute consult link. |
| Public reply | Sent. Check your DMs. |
| First DM | Here is the 20-minute consult link. Reply with your timezone if you want a slot this week. |
Connect a Professional account through Meta before you test. Instagram explains the switch in how to set up a professional account. Then comment BOOK from a second account. If the DM does not arrive, fix the automation before the Reel goes out.
Click setup, screenshots, and the in-product path live in the comment to DM setup guide. This page stops at the campaign.
What to check the day the Reel goes up
Publish only after the second account gets the DM. Then leave the keyword alone. People who comment BOOK at minute one and people who comment it tomorrow should get the same link.
Watch three numbers, in this order. Comments that match BOOK. DMs your tool marks as sent. Clicks on the tracked link. A pile of comments with almost no clicks means the DM arrived and the offer inside it is weak, or the link is broken.
If DMs sent stay near zero while comments climb, the automation is off, the word does not match, or the account is not Professional. Fix that before you film a second Reel with the same ask.
Do not answer the same comment by hand with a different link. You will confuse the person who already has your DM, and you will not know which link they tapped.
If they comment and never reply to the DM
Silence is normal. The private reply already landed. You do not get a second automated message on that comment, so do not build the offer as “DM me back and I will send the link.”
Use the public reply as the only nudge: “Sent. Check your DMs.” If your tool rotates a few short lines, keep every line meaning the same thing. A joke that forgets to mention the DM wastes the comment.
The timezone question in the example DM is there so a serious buyer has a reason to answer. Their reply opens a normal conversation. People who only wanted the link can book and leave, which is a fine outcome for a consult Reel.
Follow up by hand only with people who reply. A blast to everyone who commented is a different product, and it is the pattern that gets accounts restricted.
Mistakes that waste the only reply
- Using info or link, then DMing people who were talking to each other.
- Putting the booking URL in the public comment, where it gets buried and copied.
- Saving the link for a second message they have to unlock by replying.
- Testing from the same account that owns the Reel. Meta will not DM you.
- Promising a story-reply DM. HitDM does not ship story triggers today.
One more limit: a viral Reel can produce more comments than a free cap. On HitDM that cap is 1,000 DMs in the month, then Pro at $9. Say so to yourself before you tell 10,000 people to comment BOOK.
FAQ
Can a personal Instagram account run comment to DM automation?
No. Meta’s private replies run on a Professional account (Business or Creator) connected through an official app. A personal profile cannot send that automated DM.
What if they never open the DM?
You still used your one private reply. A short public reply such as “Check your DMs” is the nudge. Do not put the booking link in the public comment.
Should every Reel use a new keyword?
Use a new word when the offer changes. One word per offer keeps the DM honest. BOOK can stay if every Reel sells the same consult.
Run one keyword this week
A coach campaign lives or dies on that first private DM. The caption, the public reply, and the test account only protect that one message.
Pick one offer, one word, and one booking link. Publish the Reel only after a second account receives the DM.
