Get more link clicks from Instagram comments
“Link in bio” sends people on a hunt. Get more link clicks from Instagram comments by putting one tracked URL in the private DM the keyword opens. Free includes 1,000 of those DMs a month. A click is not a follower and it is not an email lead.
Why the click belongs in the DM
Get more link clicks from Instagram comments by sending one tracked URL in the private reply. The person already raised a hand by commenting. A bio link makes them leave the Reel, open your profile, and hunt. Many of them stop.
Meta allows one private reply per comment, within seven days. That rule is in Instagram Private Replies. Put the link in that first message. A second bubble they must unlock is a different template.
HitDM Free includes 1,000 of those DMs a month. Pro is $9 when you outgrow the cap or want lead capture. Prices are on Free and Pro pricing. If the goal is a follow before the URL, read grow Instagram followers from comments.

Set one destination, one keyword, one DM
- Choose one destination. One offer, one URL. A DM with three links splits the tap.
- Name the keyword in the caption. Tell people the exact word, such as LINK, and show it on the Reel.
- Put the URL in the first private reply. Meta allows one private reply per comment. The link has to be in that message.
- Use a tracked link. A tracked link shows which keyword produced the click. A raw paste does not.
- Test from a second account. Comment the keyword and confirm the DM and the click before you promote the post.
A link campaign you can copy
This is the default opening line from the “Get more link clicks” template, plus a labeled caption. It is not a case study. Tap-first delivery, for people who should confirm before they see the URL, is capture warmer Instagram leads from comments.
| Piece | Copy |
|---|---|
| Keyword | LINK |
| Caption closer | Comment LINK and I will DM the page. |
| Opening DM | Hey! Thanks for commenting. Tap below for your link. |
| Public reply | Sent. Check your DMs. |
Connect a Professional account, then comment LINK from a second account. The click path and screenshots live in the comment to DM setup guide. Compare tools in the best Instagram DM automation tools.
Mistakes that waste the click
- Three URLs in one DM. People tap none of them.
- The real URL only in a public comment, where you cannot see the tap.
- A keyword so broad that replies to other fans trigger the DM.
- Judging the Reel by likes. Judge it by tracked clicks.
- Calling a click a lead. A lead is an email or phone. That guide is Instagram lead capture from comments.
What the caption has to do
The caption is the contract. Name the keyword, name the destination in plain language, and stop. “Comment LINK for the checklist” is enough. A caption that says “comment anything” will fire the DM on compliments and arguments. You then burn the one private reply Meta allows on a comment that was never a request.
Show the same word on the Reel. If the on-screen text says LINK and the caption says LINKS, half the comments miss the automation. Match the spelling you configured, including whether you accept the singular only.
Leave a link in bio for people who never comment. Do not make the bio the only path for people who did. The DM is the short path. The bio is the spare.
How to read the click
A tracked link tells you the keyword produced a tap. It does not tell you they bought, booked, or followed. Open the destination yourself from the DM on a phone before you post, because a desktop preview hides a broken mobile page.
If clicks are far below comments, the DM is late, the button label is vague, or the page behind the link is not the thing you promised. Fix the promise before you add a second keyword. A second keyword on the same Reel splits the instruction and splits the clicks.
Free covers the send, up to 1,000 DMs in the month. When that meter stops the reply, the comment still sits on the post and the person gets nothing. That is the moment to move to Pro or to pause the keyword, not to paste the URL into a public comment as a workaround you cannot measure.
FAQ
Why do comment links get fewer taps than a DM link?
A URL in the public comments is easy to miss and easy to copy without a click you can attribute. A button in the DM is the tap you can count.
Do I need Pro to track the click?
No. HitDM Free sends the tracked link from a comment keyword, up to 1,000 DMs a month. Pro removes that monthly DM cap and adds lead capture.
Should I still keep a link in bio?
Yes, as a backup. The comment path is for people who already asked. The bio is for everyone else.
